The design was copied from French military uniforms, and the name comes from the French nickname for the people of Hawaii, 'les Hawaïens.' The name stuck, but in fact, the original design was made for a French sailor, Louis-Joseph Leotard, who later brought the design to Hawaii. "

In conclusion, the King Napoleon shirt is a classic shirt, but one that is a bit challenging to sew because of its complex design. With the help of some friends who were seamstresses and sewing experts, I was able to take the original design and bring it to life using my home machine. My shirt was complete in just two months and was ready to wear! I love this shirt and hope that others will find the same joy that I do with this unique, one-of-a-kind piece.
